At the back of your book, Marching to Zion, in the appendix, you have something called The Kane Report.

First of all, what is the Kane Institute?

And secondly, what do you make of the paragraph that says:

It is not clear whether the apparent separation of McCotter from GCI can be taken at face value, especially given GCI/McCotter’s history of moves, name changes, and similar obscuring actions. Source number 11 reported to operations a December 1987 meeting with Rob Irvine, a GCI apostle and southwest regional leader. Irvine told Source 11 that, “Because of pressure and evil closing in on the church we need an air of secrecy,” and that “McCotter has been sent away by the church to conduct church business incognito.” Source number 3, who was employed by McCotter’s Profit Group from June 1988 until July 1989, reported to Operations that President Dennis Clark called McCotter “on the average twice a day the entire time I was employed there.”

Back on November 22nd snoopy asked about the KANE Report and who the KANE Institute is. Actually, it’s KANE Associates, not Institute. The main people associated with KANE are (were?) Larry Zilliox and Larry Kahaner. Both are private investigators; the latter is also a free-lance investigative journalist. He has written at least two books: “On the Line” (about which I know nothing) and “Cults that Kill: Probing the World of Occult Crime,” which I have. The latter discusses such things as Satanism, witchcraft, Santeria, Candomble, Palo Mayombe, Umbanda, and such (not recommended bed-time reading!). I had some communication with Mr. Zilliox many years ago, I believe, during the period of their investigation into GCI and Jim McCotter’s financial activities. Let me hasten to add that I didn’t have anything to contribute to their research in that area. They undertook this research at the request of another man (whose name I forget) in the DC area, who was concerned about GCI/McCotter’s then-growing involvement in local politics and business.

If anyone is interested in the full report (including the exhibits, which consist of numerous photocopies of documents, both official and unofficial, including purchase agreements, statements of ownership, promissory notes, etc.) I will be happy to provide it. Just e-mail me for info on the cost of copying (I think it’s around $30) at my e-mail address included in Message No. 43.

Larry,

Thanks for explaining KANE associates.

This following paragraph is a curiosity to me. Do you have any clue what it is talking about when it refers to the evil closing in?

“It is not clear whether the apparent separation of McCotter from GCI can be taken at face value, especially given GCI/McCotter’s history of moves, name changes, and similar obscuring actions. As much as I say about Jim McCotter today, I have never thought there was an issue with Jim McCotter leaving GC back in 1986 but now that I read comment #78 let me say this.

An active employee of Jim McCotter made me aware of his friendly exchange of emails between himself (employee of Jim) and Dennis Clark. When the employee brought up who his employer was and the name “Jim McCotter” ALL communication CEASED without explaination. This was a month ago.

I’m not saying something’s up, just that those two pieces of the puzzle…one from when Jim exited GC in late 80’s and one from last month…cause an interest on the subject.
