Did anyone else catch the Acquire the Fire documentary on prime?  I like watching documentaries about cults now that I’ve been out for over a decade- and raising my own kids; I want to keep sharp and be on the lookout for anything to protect my kids from.  I would’ve totally seen a promo video for this conference and send my kids; it looks similar to conferences I attended as a kid(I went to an E-Free church growing up, not GCM)

Also I haven’t been on here for a while; but wanted to say I DO still lurk on here- I haven’t met anyone or stay in contact with others who had a similar experience as what I did with GCM.  I feel like I need validation once in a while that what happened to me actually happened, so thank you for keeping this page up.  I feel very grateful that GCM doesn’t appear to exist any longer.  I do still wish there world where leadership would apologize to those whom they hurt.  Maybe they have and I just wasn’t someone memorable enough to reach out to since I was only there a few years, but those are my thoughts.

We have watched all of the first season and two of the episodes of the second. It’s very upsetting. My husband grew up in a Christian commune. The communal aspect of the group dissolved many years ago (and my husband left the group many years before that), but one of the leaders mentioned in the video went on to lead the group my husband had been a part of, making the documentary even more upsetting.

My advice to anyone is never commit to a group for life and if things seem odd with a church or group, ask more questions.

Also, one former ECC pastor and his wife asked us out to dinner about 10 years ago and apologized to us and thanked us for posting on this forum. It was very redemptive.
