Asking Questions

In the announced dissolvement of GCC, I have not heard of any church disbanding or becoming spiritually accountable to a healthy denomination or organization.  It seems there are just divisions among the group as a whole. There has been no purging of false teaching or practices to my understanding. Would not those who attend the same churches still be in the same danger from Lording Over, Bullying Reproof, Privacy Invasion, and Shunning Tactics?

As new names are being given to old GCx churches, and new regions have been formed from old GCx groups and pastors, there loom crucial questions (some from experts in the field) critical to your spiritual well-being:

1.  Has treating the members of it’s body changed to an environment of respected personal independence and freedom without hidden requirements of excessive service or lifetime commitments?

2.  Is image management still more important than telling the truth?

3.  Has my encouragement decreased from feeling less “qualified” to serve and be used by God there?

4.  Does my church claim or imply I will grow and fulfill God’s will if I stay loyal to it?

5.  Do the leaders of my church perceive comments or questions as a challenge to their authority?

6.  After being with the church for awhile, am I more dependent on the work of Jesus and his love for me; OR am I more dependent on my performance and what the leaders think of me?

Atleast one “former” GCX Church has come under a denominational umbrella.  See the quote below from the “GCC Votes to Dissolve” Thread.

In case anyone is interested, someone just brought it to my attention that Walnut Creek in Des Moines is now officially Southern Baptist. Here is the link.

Personally, this is what I would strongly suggest (also from GCC Dissolving Thread):

“Old habits die hard, so if you are a young believer it would seem best to be involved with a church who has a healthy history, not one who is grappling with MANY and INTENSE needed changes as Walnut Creek Church will be.”

And to still keep asking yourself important questions (like those above) about the spiritual health of your church.
