A quote (though if this is all you read, you'll miss the points of contact):

Quote
"[...] Listen, if anyone ever cautions you that you're in danger of sinning against the Holy Spirit for putting a doctrine or a practice to the biblical test, if anyone ever warns you against examining any teaching, or any practice, in the light of Scripture, that person is in opposition to the word of God, and you have grounds to reject that person's teaching [read, reject that person as a valid teacher] on that basis alone; we have a solemn duty to examine everything carefully according to Scripture...we are commanded to examine...doctrine or practice and find it in conflict with Scripture, we are obligated by our duty to God and our belief in His word to reject that doctrine or practice; you see, when we examine and evaluate Spiritual truth, we must never allow personal feelings, individual experience, inner voices in our heads, the sentiments of other people, public opinion, or any other kind of influence, to carry more weight, of truth, than the word of God...Scripture must be the final judge of this and all other Spiritual truth claims..."

Hey guys. The following message is by Phil Johnson, is entitled "The Charismatic Movement", (2003-02-26-PJ); I put it in General Discussion as something for you guys to hear and see about comparing it to your experience/observations, the teachings there, etc.. It's really interesting for comparative fodder, and the similarities about some modern distinctive aberrations/abuses in Charismaticism are really revealing!  http://gracelifepulpit.media.s3.amazonaws.com/GL-2003-02-26-PJ.mp3

Personally, I put it on "high" speed using Windows Media Player which cuts-down the time of listening (A LOT) without things sounding like chipmunks: I highly recommend it. : D

Note I'd love to say a bunch about this, especially regarding all the stuff said in about the first half (actually over, but...), comparatively, though even the part getting into continuation/cessation on spiritual gifts (with Charismaticism) has a lot of parallels to the quasi- "God inspiring the leaders" kind-of idea implied/nearly-taught at GC*, though some, I think, there seem to suggest something like a "because we're leaders, we have the authority to speak/do/command for God" kind of idea. First, though, you guys get to chime-in when you can/if you want. : )
