All,

I think you all can commiserate, but I'm increasingly saddened by the learned helplessness passed out in the church we left. We are still meeting with different people who are still there and are expressing real questions about all that is happening. This is encouraging and I consistently encourage them to think and pray as honestly as possible.

However, the teaching on "loyalty" and "leadership" is still around and it doesn't look like any amount of convincing is going to change this. Ergo, the learned helplessness and broken Christians are going to be churned out regardless.

More recently, I feel like I have been rejected by those in the "movement" and I think it will become worse as more of "their" (how absurd!) congregation is asking me questions they should be asking the "leaders". When this happens, I consistently tell them to first ask their questions to the "leaders" openly and to not be afraid of learning the truth of what they believe. That, is apparently, viewed as divisiveness and heresy. Then, if I can help them find their answers, we'll work together.

This is insane. If you are not prepared to answer questions and (God forbid!) admit sometimes you don't have them, then you have no business being a "leader" much less an "elder". God gave us minds and hearts of our own! How is GCM different than the papacy at this point? It just makes me sick.

I like the points you made, and I especially like how you said that good leaders sometimes admit that they DON'T have all the answers.

It is frustrating to try to convince people of this... I eventually gave up.
