Do you remember the movie, Eyes Wide Shut with Tom Cruise?  That is what it was like for me as a pastor at GCM.  I could never know which way was up.  We had always followed one particular leader in our GCM section.  I have left and now go to a better church.  I am in recovery.  I am happier now.  For those who read this forum, life was not so easy being a pastor there.  It was harder on my wife.  We've been reading this blog/forum for quite sometime now.  It's very refreshing to read that others had the same feelings, even from long ago.

What words of encouragement would you give those who are in GCM, hunger for something more, but don't know what else to do since it's been their lives for so long?

Get out. Then go find a Bible-believing church that does not have all the baggage of GCx. Talk with people on this list. Keep reading the Bible and praying.

Get out?     That won't help if you are not ready to leave.

There are no words that will sound encouraging and not sound threatening at the same time.

The only thing you'll lose by staying at a GC church is your earthly life. Your salvation will be fine. The same can be said for any other Bible  believing/teaching church.

There is no simple, easy, emotionally satisfying answer as any of us can attest to.

OK, I will expand on my previous advice: Get ready to leave. Then get out.

maranatha did not ask for advice that is simple, easy, or emotionally satisfying. And I did not claim that my advice is any of those things.

Cultivate your own relationship with God and He will lead you.

Simple but powerful advice I heard today that could be helpful to someone else.
