Alright, so I've been looking over the GCM/GCC connection again, and I just can't help but see the deliberate misrepresentation of GCM in distancing themselves from GCC.
So, there is
http://www.gcmweb.org/who/OthersSay/Questions.aspxWhich sounds like GCM is just ever so completely separate from GCC.
Then there is this.
http://www.gcmweb.org/who/OthersSay/Testimonies.aspxNow each of the churches listed:Michigan State University Riverview Church, Zolder 50, The Rock University of Missouri.
Let's see what THOSE churches have to say.
1. Michigan State University Riverview Church:
http://rivchurch.com/about-us/history/So they had sister GCAC/GCC churches, were founded by a GCC pastor but are not affiliated with GCC now?
2. Zolder 50
http://www.amsterdam50.nl/1/site.php?page=about§ion=History+and+HighlightsBorn out of the GCA movement?
3. The Rock University of Missouri
http://www.columbiarock.com/wordpress/about-the-rock"The Rock is a nondenominational Christian church geared toward college students at the University of Missouri. Planted on campus in 2000 by Valley View Community Church"...We’re associated with
Great Commission Ministries, a well-respected church planting and leadership development organization that is focused on reaching the next generation with the Gospel of Christ.
And Valley View
http://www.discovervalleyview.org/going_on/affiliation/index.asp is a GCC church.
So, why is GCM distancing themselves from GCC? Obviously, GCC doesn't wish to distance themselves from GCM.
"There is a group of online detractors of the Great Commission movement. They typically identify their complaints with GCM, but their concerns are actually with churches associated with the historic Great Commission movement or with GCM Churches—not with GCM as a mission organization. They misrepresent GCM when they label any church associated with the Great Commission movement as a “GCM church.” As a mission agency and distinct 501c3, GCM is not under the spiritual authority of any one group of churches. We would direct those who desire more information to Great Commission Churches’ website or ask them to contact us directly."
This is still on their site. Yet, how do people in campus churches get involved with GCC churches? Through GCM missionaries of course! You can't have it both ways!
When people who belong to the GCX movement aren't even aware of this dubious distinction, maybe the distinction isn't really there at all. Every single GCM missionary I have ever known (there are a lot) worked directly with a GCC church under the authority of the pastors. They were sometimes even pastors IN GCC churches! That makes no sense that they are not related!
Just how many GCM missionaries would there be if you took out all GCC ties? Does anyone have any way to find this out?
