Keeping It Real

Today I was pondering our relationships with other Christians. As I thought back on several instances of attempting to artificially lead other christian women, I acknowledged how laughable the effect of my own missions were. They were my strained efforts at significance in the Body of Christ. They were much like an unsynchronized cymbal clanging during the flow of a smooth string solo. Annoying rather than blessing. The more I tried in my own effort, the less successful I became.

More recently, God has shown me that relationships are more about trusting than trying. More about the expectation of His blessing than the production of my ability. About connecting with the Divine in those interactions. Like Hope said in her 'My Story' post, "Fellowship is a beautiful thing" when the spirit is given freedom to lead. This can only happen when our eyes are upon him, not ourselves, nor our reputation.

When we are relying on our own strength to "disciple/mentor/minister to" other believers, it ends up flat, rather pushy, and pretty insensitive to those we think we are "helping".  But, when we are relying upon the pure power of God's grace, we are filled with energy, humility, wisdom, and real love for them.

For grace is given not because we have done good works, but in order that we may be able to do them.        - Saint Augustine
