I am  little shell shocked.  I was  at  an evangelically minded Lutheran church in  Ohio.  The church just installed a  senior pastor with  a  hyper discipleship mentality.   Having the congregation chanting their commitments to the Great Commission was  a  bit much.

Today  I went to a  men's breakfast.  I walked out in  a cult flashback.  The leaders have teamed up with  a  GC church and are using a  lodge owned by an elder.   It was told if we  are not discipling, we are  not saved.  All of the sudden, our Christian walk is measured by many souls win souls who win souls.  I saw  right through it.

Needless to say, I walked out in a daze.  My wife and I were to be received in membership   12/22.  I emailed the membership coordinator saying we  are not joining.

To  add to the stress.  I found out several months after the fact that my mother  had passed away.  The  schism, sadly, was  brought  about by my group involvement and attempts to recover.

If any was has any  feedback or words of support, it would be  greatly  appreciated.  Of course your prayers  are coveted during this tough time.

Oh, wow, I'm so sorry you're going through all this. No words of wisdom, but I'm praying. And I fully support your decision to leave that church.

exshep, I am very sorry.

Would you mind saying which of the Lutheran denominations this church is in?
