As mentioned earlier today, I was killing time and revisited the Meyer Statement that had been making the rounds last Winter.

I mentioned the reference to "significant amounts" of money that were given to disgruntled leaders who left, but there is a lot more to ponder in his statement.

He spends a lot of his time trying to discredit Joan's investigation. He just kind of throws a bunch of stuff out there I suppose in the hopes that something will stick.

One thing he mentions is that Joan was unaware of the fact that "several witnesses had been regularly involved in anti-GCC websites for years". I would like to challenge that statement.

First of all, I'm tired of this site being branded as "anti-GCC". I am "anti-bad theology and practice" and think I speak for many who have posted here over the years. I am "pro correcting bad theology."

But more relevant to the situation with "witnesses" posting on "websites" (plural—are there other websites posting about GCC?), I am unaware of anyone who has posted on this site for "years" who spoke with Joan. I certainly did not speak with Joan and am unaware of any of the long term posters of this forum speaking with her. So that seems to be a bunch of balogna said to discredit Joan and this forum. Also, only the BoT knows who gave testimony, so he speaks out of ignorance (unless the BoT made the results of the investigation available to others which we have been told they did not).

He also goes out of his way to discredit this forum when he doesn't mention that the concerns presented on this site deal with the bad teaching and practice of this group over decades. He refers to the "vile, slanderous claims continuously present on internet sites". Our concerns have to do with theology and practice. The only slandering that occurred on this site was when Jeromy (while employed by ECC, I might add) and others took over this site for a few months and spewed vulgar, vile and actually slanderous things. He called me a liar. Some suggested that Suzanne was a criminal. You can't do stuff like that. Those things are actual slander.

Is the Meyer Statement letter written by Charlie Meyer, Linda?

I know he has started a ‘church plant’ in Rochester, Minnesota. It has a new name not associated with the Evergreen brand. It is a brand management strategy that is trying to re-coupe the loss Jeromy and Mark Darling did.

The statement was from John Meyer. My understanding is that John has left GCC and taken all the West and SW GCC churches. It appears as if he is starting a new association called “M28 Alliance.”

Iowa (and other churches) appear to be leaving GCC and starting a new association called Lift Network.

So there appears to be a 3 way split among the brothers who once committed to each other for life.

This was all precipitated by the Mark Darling situation. My understanding is that some felt the brothers didn’t have Mark’s back.

John Meyer is a brother to Charlie Meyer. I wonder what Christmas and Easter is like with them.

I like to think that Christians can have deep theological and political differences and still care about and love each other.

I would hope that is the case in all the splits happening in GCC.

It is highly ironic, however, when you remember all the "loyalty/band of brothers/surrendered my will to Great Commission, John Hopler, Brent Knox, etc." talks and realize that they weren't as loyal as they thought they were.

Back in my time with the movement, the emphasis on unity was so overwhelming that we were told never to do, say, or even think anything that would undermine our unity. It was a stifling burden, one that the leaders themselves have been unable to bear.
