This site has been theraputic and helpful as i deconstruct my time spent as a pastor's kid in the GMC movement. Activity on this site has slowed down, and I was wondering if there was a more active community somewhere else online? I've looked for facebook groups or reddit, and have not noticed anything?

Just curious if there are other active spaces anyone knows about? Thanks!

Hi, Toprunner2786, and belated welcome to the forum.

Someone started a Reddit group a few years back. I was never a member of that one, so I can't say how active they are/were, or whether they're still around. To my knowledge, the only GC-related sites have been the Reddit group, the old (no longer active) De-Commissioned forum, and this one.

I hope you're doing well these days, and I'm glad this forum was able to offer you some comfort. There have been some amazing members here throughout the site's history, with really helpful insights. I wish more of them were still around, but maybe they're reached a point where they've truly been able to put their GC experiences behind them.  (EDIT TO ADD:) But a few of us are still hanging around, just in case we can be useful to newcomers.

Hi toprunner,

The reddit group is r/exGCC.

Yeah, this page goes through lulls in activity, but people are always lurking around.

Welcome Toprunner 2786! So glad you have been able to start the healing process! Sure seems it may have been quite hard for children of leaders because there was an extreme amount of pressure to perform outwardly. Perhaps it takes even longer to unravel the bondage because you may never have known any different. I believe it’s not an accident where we were raised, but God’s door of “need” to discover his compassion and abundant love. I probably would not have come to rely so much on God without the confusion, condescension, and conflict with Grace that I was drenched in for a decade in GCx. For so many of us GCx forced its way to become “our family.“

This site being therapeutic to you speaks to the hundreds of writers here who have finally been able to share their experience openly. We have helped each other recognize:

1. We are not alone in how we (and our faith) really did suffer under this oppressive organization.

2. Our being constantly rebuked was not because there was something wrong with us, but because there was a “works and pride” mindset that was wrongly taught and yoked upon us. Instead, we are forever good enough by the blood of Christ.

3. God sends healing our way through His Grace & Truth, His People, His Unconditional Love, and his providential leading of circumstance in our lives.

For grace is given not because we have done good works, but in order that we may be able to do them.        - Saint Augustine
