Hey I was just thinking about the album "take the land" that GCx put out in the mid or late 80's. Does anyone remember this. I can't remember what the band name was, but I'm pretty sure it was led by Rob Lamp. The hit track was "give him what you got." It was full of synthesizers and computer voices. If anyone has more info let me know. I want to get a copy.  Smiley

I found it!  It was the "Great Commission Band".
Rob lamp did the words and music and Al House did lead vocals.

"Give Him what ya got
No more no less
If you want to see Him bless
You've got nothing to love
So put Him to the test
Now don't cha sit around and wished ya had more.
He'll give you so much more than you've ever hoped for.

Give him what ya got
now if ya think that we're ever gonna reach the world,
Just put away your doubts and take Him at His word.
If you'll be faithful in the little you'll be faithful in much.
Just lay it all down and yield it to His touch.

Give Him what ya got.
He took two tiny fish and a little bit of bread.
He broke it and He blessed it and a multitude was fed.
Now don't cha hold back If you think there's a lack.
He'll give you all that you need and that's a known fact.

It's time to give Him what ya got."

Awesome! Do I remember correctly that it is kind of like a rap song?

This seems like a great summery of GCx philosophy:

"Give Him what ya got
No more no less
If you want to see Him bless"

more accurately, give us what you got.

I know it's illegal but can you possibly break out the old boom box and dub me a copy?  Wink

Rob Lamp rocks and was one of our favorite people from back in the day who is no longer with GCM.

We admire him greatly and wouldn't want to do anything that he might not think was a good idea. Sorry guys!

Rob Lamp is a very cool guy to this day.  I contacted him in an effort to get the Anti Rock and Roll tape that he had produced back in the 80's.  He remembered me and wished me well.  Solid Rock, GCM was held on OSU's campus in one of the student unions.  Then they moved the Church to the Northland area of Columbus.  I remember a few things:

I had been baptized Episcopalian as a child, and later baptized again in a Methodist Church as a teen.  My elders asked me to get baptized again inpart because they wanted my "big brother" to be accountable for me.  Whatever,

Later when I didn't want to leave OSU because I was pursuing my degree, all my brothers in the church and the small group bible study relocated to another state to form a new church.  My ex-girlfriend went with them, but of course our dating had been discouraged, and ended after we became members of GCC.

Looking back GCC was so misguided, and too many were doing their own control games, all in the name of Jesus.  Kids that were secretly meeting to determine the fates of others rather than simply letting God's will be done.

TAKE THE LAND

My jam since I was in diapers! I remember the album cover - the band carrying instruments while exiting a boat on shore - a literal interpretation of the title!

Give Him What You Got is indeed rare, my copy shredded itself back in '05. I never made a digital copy Sad. D.C. Talk aficionados regard it as a major influence on Nu Thang.
