Check out this list, http://www.sgmsurvivors.com/?p=1279

And tell me which one CAN'T apply to GC*? Are we seeing two organizations founded on the same spirit here? Maybe McCotter was two-timing? Maybe they both imbibed too much of the same literature...?

That does sound very similar to the GC playbook, although there were differences of course.  The control is very similar though.

There are eerie similarities between bible-believing groups who use the "shepherding movement"/discipleship church model, which GC and SGM do. When certain doctrines are introduced to any church they have specific effects upon that church, which I think is why this list of SGM's problems reminds us so much of GC's. It certainly is like looking into an alternate dysfunctional world when reading that list. GCM of course has its own distinctive from SGM, but much remains the same between them.

Larry Pile has an interesting article on these types of churches and their characteristics: http://gcxweb.org/Misc/LarryPile-OtherSideOfDiscipleship.aspx
