Hello All,

I thought I should share some information about myself.

I spend a short time at the GCx Rock/Stonebrook Church in Ames, IA back in 2002. I was only there for about 10 months however, before I left I was “serving” an average of 30 hours a week. (This was over the summer months and I spent most of that time pulling electrical wire and other related construction work on Stonebrook’s new addition)

Stonebrook was not a good fit for me. I struggled with many of their theologic beliefs, and that is what lead to my eventual departure. When I started there I was a life long atheist, and by the time I left, I desperately wanted to believe in a God but I just could not believe in their GCx view of God.

Since then, I have moved on. I found an amazing church, which became my church home. I meet and later married my husband in that faith community. My church has been there for me as I processed my negative experiences the GCx church, as well as helped me when I first started to discern a call to ordained ministry. My church is even there for me now as I am half way done with seminary.

Finding a real church home is what made the difference for me in my faith journey.

Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Take to heart these instructions with which I charge you this day. -Deut 4:4-6, JPS

Welcome to GCMWarning Smiley  I'm an ex-member of Stonebrook as well, and I started going in 2002.  Maybe we knew each other?   You don't have to say if you don't want to, I'm just introducing myself.

Stonebrook is/was an easy place to start putting in 30+ hours of work a week.  Saying "your reward is in heaven" is such a great cop-out for leaders to use to cover their general lack of appreciation for the saints putting their backs into the "kingdom work" like refurnishing concert halls.  Their most valuable resource is their numbers and physical improvements on their buildings.

A belated Welcome aboard.  Congratulations for  seeing what was going on  and  leaving.  I am grateful that you  have  a faith community which is supporting you in your recovery. Thanks for the glad tidings. Glad you are here.

So did you become a Christian?  What were you issues?
