I was involved in the Ames church from 1983 to 1990.  Two members shared the Gospel with me, I got saved and began attending the church in the fall of 83.  I was involved in a lot of the outreaches/conferences and the D.C. leadership conferences in 84 and 86.  I left in 90 when I moved to California.  I probably would have continued to attend a GCC church had there been one nearby.  I eventually made my way out to Hawaii and attend a non-denominational church that, in some ways, seems similiar to GCC.

I have good and bad memories from my time in GCC.  I know that God brought the people, from that church, into my life so that I would get saved.  I have some lifelong friends from that church whom I love dearly.

Even being away from GCC for about 17 years I still notice some areas where I was indoctrinated by GCC philosophy.  I've noticed conflict in a couple of areas with the church I attend now and GCC as far as where each organization stands on a particular issue.  I just push that matter to the back of my mind and I don't even deal with it.  It just feels too overwhelming to try and figure it out.  I guess I have the philosophy that there are things that we just won't know the answers to until the day we die and God reveals everything to us.  And then I'll know the real deal.

Once I moved to Hawaii I got involved with another church group that makes my experience with GCC seem like a day at Disneyland.  I stayed with that group for only a year and a half before attending the church I do now.

God has done great healing in my life and I am glad to be a part of the church I am with now.

Well I'll end for now.  I'm glad there is a site like this--not that I plan on bashing GCC or anything, but sometimes it's nice to know that I'm not alone in feelings I had or experiences I went thru as a GCC member.
