Hello,
I was googling for a KC person on the web, because my college age son came into town this past weekend and wanted to go to what I thought was a questionable church/minister from years ago. No, not a GCI church or person, but someone I had heard of from when I was in Cornerstone (GCI) years ago and some how I stumbled onto this and other sites.
A brief history of myself, I'm a woman (so I guess men shouldn't read this or take anything I say as my trying to ... I guess you may have had to be there) who moved to the KC area to go to college.  I became a christian after going to a small bible study group that met at a classmates apartment which was led by a Baptist minister and was baptized the following spring.  (this was so long ago, late 70's so my memory is a bit fuzzy).  Somehow we stumbled into this really cool church that seemed to be living the new testament life(Cornerstone).
Then a bunch of stuff happened...  eventually we (I was married by that time and had a young child) left cornerstone a year after it turned into GCI (probably 1986).  We weren't publicly shunned/rebuked but all my friends were no longer my friends because we dared leave the church.
Stuggles that I had/have are making sense to me now.
I think this site has helped open my eyes a bit and it has given me some understanding as to why I stuggle with a few things.
I really haven't felt comfortable in any church since... the one I really did like scared me away when they started talking about expanding and wanting to start a "plant" church that was actually near our home but led by a young 20 year old.  I just couldn't hang around...   Lynn

Lynn,

You story is like so many others.  It is.  I came along to GCI around 1987 during high school so we have different numbers on our driver's license, but that does not mean we had different lives.  Life was strange when I left Evergreen too.  Evergreen is a GCM branch.  Ha.  It is like I am not so different than you after you saying it so plainly.

Puff, have you ever wanted to ask everyone or ask a survey of how many that have left and just don't fancy the idea of church.  Give it a go and see if a survey would be possible for this forum.  I would love to know this/

Cheers.
