Joined the church about 1980. I was there 4-5 years. I never got into the inner sanctum, mostly because I am not good at following rules. I finally left the church because some things I thought they were doing were wrong. Now I can't really remember specifics. I never thought it was a cult, even though my family did. I learnedalot about the Bible though, let's face it, I was in a church activity almost every night. I loved the songs. I am glad I did't know all this stuff then, that I have learned from this website. I try really hard, not to run into former members. Over the years I have run into a few members, usually they don't talk to you. That makes me sad. I am in a non GCC and I really like it

Hello, us, and welcome to the forum.

About 25 years ago, Billy Graham told a group of us would-be "crusade counselors" that God purposely doesn't reveal it all to us at the start.  He gives us insight and information along the way, as we need it.  Rev. Graham said that, if he had seen from the start what his ministry was going to become, he would have been too afraid to start at all.

I hear ya about the songs and memorizing Scripture.  I'm still undoing many of the bad Scripture applications I was taught back then, but it is indeed a blessing to have the verses themselves tucked away in my memory.

Again, welcome.  You're among friends here.
