Favor Unto Us

Since today is the National Day of Encouragement it seems fitting to take to heart this truth.  God is The Father of All Encouragement for us.  He continually has treasured thoughts of deep, moving, and abiding love toward us.  Those thoughts are expressed also in his actions toward us. His loving kindnesses never cease!  His Truth says He has so many affectionate thoughts toward us individually they outnumber the sand.  His Word also tells us His Works toward us each of us are so many that we can't keep count.  So many that we could endlessly thank Him. The devil tries to persuade us that we don't deserve them, so we won't fully enjoy them and neither thereby naturally praise and thank Him.

Psalm 40:5 from the Interlinear translates the Hebrew this way:

"Many [which] you have done you O Lord my God [are] Your wonderful works and Your thoughts unto (us) they cannot [which are] be reckoned up in order unto You [if] I would declare and speak [of them] they are more to count"

What was particularly encouraging is that the exact Hebrew word for the first unto in this scripture translates as unto us in at least 4 other scripture passages.  God's works are not just for the general good or of old - like escaping through the Red Sea and turning water into wine. They are also for us personally today.  I get so encouraged when I start recalling what he has done for me in my journal.  He longs to be gracious to us.  We just have to believe we are righteous enough to ask and expectantly wait for them.  Jesus' blood never fails to continually cleanse us to make us more than righteous enough.

If we need encouragement at any time, that is a good opportunity to start recalling or writing down the wonderful works he has done for us.  A chance to remember the precious thoughts he said to us through his word.  Then claiming those thoughts for the present because Jesus' love toward us does not change with our behavior.  It remains steady and sure because it is based on his unchanging blood.  That's why we rejoice in the cross.  It is our encouragement at all times.  It's why God does marvelous things for us and thinks of us as holy in his sight.

Perhaps you may want to keep a little journal and write in it recalling His marvelous favor and love toward you whenever you're tempted to think God has forgotten you or that you haven't done enough to deserve his approval and favor.

Do You Know in Your Heart?

That God wants to comfort our anxious hearts.  That He longs to calm our worried souls.  So much that He himself completed all the righteous works that were required for us to satisfy God.  He took upon himself the entire punishment that was due us.  He paid with his own body and blood for all our sins so that we could enjoy His love and His forgiveness. Already mind blowing - but then, he adds to us double blessing (or favor).  He loves to give in "running over" proportion.  Beyond all we can imagine or think.  That's the givingness of our God.

"Comfort, comfort my people,
    says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
    and proclaim to her
that her hard service has been completed,
that her sin has been paid for,
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
    double for all her sins
."
Isaiah 40:1-2
