We had an experience where everything we wanted to do spiritually was overtaken by "Official church stuff"  We had people over for worship and suddenly it had to be an official church function.  My husband started getting together for a bible study with some other men and suddenly someone representing the Bible study had to show up for LTC meetings. it seemed that everything the Holy spirit was directing us to do had to somehow become an official church function.  Anything we did spiritually had to have the blessing of the pastors;  if you wanted to have people over to worship or have a bible study somehow you were "independent thinkers" and "circumventing the authority" of the leadership. This is so stifiling and wrong

I know that feeling oh to well, anything that was not their idea was a no go, or if you pushed it through it became their idea and was taken over by a pastor/staffer.  I saw two outreach group ideas fold because of the "it wasn't their idea no go" effect and I was rebuked and  chastised until I left for being involved in another project which now two years latter my old church conveniently signed their name to as a sponsor a repeat of the event yet they showed a stunning lack of presence.  Yet again another set of examples of authority being abused, sorry but the pastors are not all knowing.

I experienced almost the exact same thing. A few of us have been looking to meet/pray/discuss the Bible for some time and I even invited one of the "leaders" to join us. Once the "leader" had a moment to think about it, I was chastised for trying to do something the "church" had not directly sanctioned. As if, no two or more people could meet without direct "ok" from the leadership.

It was ridiculous to say the least.

This is clearly about control.

I'm still in and get messed with too.

By the way, sistainchrist please pray about talking to whoever runs that non-GCM outreach project to advise them and maybe have GCM removed from the list; DON'T let people get involved there until the leadership repents and is removed: GCM has major issues and it's getting much worse.

Sorry. : (

I love your Subject Line.  How fitting!
