I didn't want to hijack any other threads, so I thought I'd start a new one and make everyone repeat themselves. Cheesy

What books have you found that have been profoundly helpful to you in your faith?  I'm particularly thinking of those that helped you with healing from "GC stuff", and those that have helped you define or redefine your walk with God.

Here are a few of mine:

"Waking the Dead", by John Eldredge.  This book helped me to see that my heart is good, because it's God-given, and that it's OK to follow my true heart.

"The Me I Want To Be", by John Ortberg.  As of this writing, I'm still finishing it up, but it's goooooood. :-)  Ortberg makes lots of great points that seem to directly counter the more misguided of the GC stuff.

"When I Relax, I Feel Guilty" by Tim Hansel.  Joy and rest are important, and God-given. I actually bought this book while I was still deep in GC...that, in and of itself, should have been a clue to me back then.

"Inside Out", by Larry Crabb.  I read through this book with a group of people, very soon after Valley Brook had left GC.  This was my introduction to "psychology is not evil".  Grin  It was also the very first time I had considered my own self-protectiveness, and found out it was OK (and necessary) to identify and resolve past hurts.

This is my first post.  I was involved with a GCX church a number of years ago.  This site has been helpful in many ways.  For one, it has helped me laugh where I didn't think it was possible.

As far as books go, they have been my friends.  Anything by Ravi Zacharias including the lastest - Has Christianity Failed You?  He covers so many topics my heart longs to discuss.  Has anyone else read this?  Anne Graham Lotz has been very healing as well.  She was asked to leave a church at one time, something I can relate to.

Boundaries: When to Say Yes, When to Say No by Cloud and Townsend and Bold Love by Dan Allendar. Excellent books that will help set you free if you're the type who constantly gives in to unreasonable the demands because you're afraid that refusing would "be a bad witness". (Along these lines, I heard an excellent series of interviews with the author of No More Christian Nice Girl. Still looking forward to reading that one, hoping it will be as good as the interviews.)
