When I get to the forum and see a list of posts by obvious porno-pushers, phishers, and spammers, I do not even bother try to read through the list to find any legitimate posts by members.  I just log off and move on.

I am wondering how many others are in favor of asking Puff to set up the automatic posting block of unregistered non-members?  If the block were in place, it would still be easy to sign up for the site, even with an anonymous screen name, and reading remains freely available to all.  I think blocking the posts of non-members will reduce or eliminate the garbage dumped by spamming "robots."

How many others feel this way?

Sounds good to me. I find the spam extremely annoying. Just so you're aware that this will reduce the amount, not get rid of it entirely. Some spammers will go to the trouble of registering, then post as much spam as possible before they're caught and expelled.

Hi Huldah.  I think you are correct, that it will not eliminate all the spamming, but it will likely stop most of it.  Most of it is automated, which is why you see so many "user names" that are randomly generated collections of letters, and the postings are generic "hi there, i'm new here, email me so we can party."

I just find it so embarrasing seeing all the porn promotions on an ostensibly Christian forum, which is why I don't stick around to sort through them looking for the valid postings.

Overall I think Puff does a great job keeping up with it, but I guess I am just getting less tolerant in my old age........

Tired of the spam. OK with me if the admin locks out the unregistered.

Puff,

Thanks, also, for your labor of love to clean up and maintain this site constantly.  It is definitely not a "glory-seeking" task, and provides help and hope to potentially thousands of people.  I'm glad you made the above decision.  Let's pray against further porn attacks, and for the people posting them.  They are from the throat of hell itself.

Puff, I just want to add my "thanks" for all you do and have done, including turning off unregistered posts.  Porn and spam aren't the only nefarious uses of unregistered posts, and I'm glad to see them end.

And thanks, EAS, for suggesting it.
