If they are reading Warren's materials, then yes.

As a Former member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, this political infighting is well known. Ask any LCMS person who is aware of current events about the mysterious national budget  and the Purple Palace. There is a shortage of pastors in the the parishes, but that shortage would go away if all the ordained ministers in administrative positions were re-assigned o the parish.

The two sides are very very hard on each other and are about equal in power.  The former president of the synod, Dr. Al Barry, was more conservative and the modernists were held in check. The current president has stayed in office by stacking the executive counsel with his supporters.
In the near future, the LCMS will be come more liberal with women clergy and ultimately  they will merge with the ELCA, (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) After the merge, many of the conservatives will leave and form a new Synod. The headquarters will likely be in Ft.Wayne In., where there is a Seminary that supports the conservative position.

The Christian witness of the synod has been compromised in my opinion.

A split already happened with the LCMS and WELS(Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod).  It involved a lot of political in-fighting and new church direction arguments as you said.  As a former WELS member, I do know there is still considerable bad blood between the two.  I still don't know who split from who, but the events I read about and the tendencies you are describing lead me to believe a similar split will occur.  I agree they might merge with ELCA after a split.  But my father is currently a WELS/ELS(Evangelical Lutheran Synod) vicar.  ELS split from WELS for not splitting with LCMS soon enough.  Anyhow, WELS seems to be embracing a more popular and mainstream approach in several churchs.  So the conservatives leaving LCMS and joining WELS could be possible.

I do agree that the vision of LCMS is compromised at the moment, but I have faith that things will be worked out.  Church and Christian politics are almost as bad as the Clinton/Obama contest, but God will prevail.  I rest on that.

I kinda doubt any Missouri people will join WELS.  There is a basic difference in opinions over the Pastor's authority between the two Synods. WELS pastors have more authority in the local congregation than the LCMS pastors.
We had several ex-WELS people in our congregation due to that issue.

ANd truthfully, to show the foolishness of people,  WELS and LCMS discontinued fellowship in the 1940's over the issue of boyscouts. Yeah, Boyscouts. LCMS didn't agree with the boyscouts. But back then, (1940's) the LCMS discouraged dancing, Movies, TV and a lot of popular culture.

LCMS still teaches that membership in any fraternal organization like the Masonic Lodge, Moose, Elks etc. is not godly due to the vague notions of God that those organizations hold to.

And when church people go to court to get their way, going outside the church and using lawyers and lawsuits to hinder their political enemies, then they have completely ignored God's word from Paul about that issue.

I have seen examples of this  legal manuvering in many church organizations.... Lutheran, Church of God, Baptist, Church of Christ, Assembly of God, Presbyterian,Methodists, even the Roman Catholics.

We Humans are such a foolish lot.
