I've been thinking about what Mark Bowen has done to other people, the whole time covering the serious and serial sexual sin of a fellow pastor.

Mark Bowen was involved in the excommunication of a member for "gossip" about a pastor.  They held official hearings, asked friends for testimonies against the member, wrote up leadership's side, distributed that to the church, kicked the members out, and asked the entire church not to have any contact with this family and extended family.  To clarify, the gossip was not unfounded accusations of assault or anything like that, it was about a conflict regarding a negative letter the pastor wrote about the member.

Mark Bowen yelled at a tent-making pastor (so not one of the revered founding members like Mark Darling was) and wrote a blaming/shaming document about him which was then distributed among that pastor's church. There was no identified sin or failing of this pastor.  He just didn't "fit" the mold they were looking for.

A (different) pastor did have an issue that rightfully meant he should step away from ministry for a time (not sexual in nature and he didn't victimize anyone else, so perhaps less serious than sexual abuse/misconduct).  At two different churches, Sunday morning services were dedicated to the public shaming of that pastor AFTER he resigned.  At one of the churches, FIVE pastors got up to disparage the former pastor, including Mark Bowen AND Mark Darling.  So, Mark Bowen, who KNEW that Mark Darling had committed inappropriate behavior with multiple women, stood next to him and publicly shamed a "less important" pastor for a less serious personal struggle.  Mark Bowen participated in both services of the public shaming.

Mark Bowen was involved in the abusive mentoring and public shaming of a tent-making pastor, the public shaming of another resigned pastor, and the excommunication and public shaming of members.  He did all of these things simultaneously with Mark Darling's ongoing inappropriate conduct that Mark Bowen knew about the whole time.  He stood shoulder to shoulder with Mark Darling as a colleague as he took out lesser pastors and sheep.  If this is not hypocrisy and moral failure, I don't know what is.  If this does not demonstrate character unfit for ministry, I don't know what else does.  And Mark Bowen is going unchallenged about all of it.

Ugh. Thanks for filling in some details on the Mark and Mark pastoral behavior as big shots.

This is why I wrote the parody about them on their hawses, but that was lost, because I wrote it the day The Reckoning came forth.

We know, from a biblical account, that when a person at the top is covering up sin, they are very harsh with others who are guilty of something. In the case you just described with the family accused of gossip, it sounds like an excommunication right out of the play book of Jim McCotter.

God cares for the little guy. God is not mocked.

Mark Bowen is the pastor who is very concerned about his reputation. I wish he was just as concerned with those within his church who have been mistreated by a fellow pastor who he has covered for.

I remember your parody!  And unfortunately I remember The Reckoning as well  Sad

Does the ECC BOT know that he took these actions?  Does the average ECC person know?  Or does Mark Bowen abuse his power on the side in another state and therefore and no one is aware?  Does no one care?  Or do they think it's okay to publicly shame and shun people for things less serious than pastoral sexual misconduct and cover-up?  Was he acting as a part of the GCC National Board or as a representative of the region when he "disciplined" people?  I'd like to know why Mark Bowen wasn't disciplined while the disciplinary actions against these people have never been retracted?  I'd like to know why GCC or ECC stands by coming down hard on sheep while letting the pastors off.  I mean, I'd REALLY like to know.

None of the people Mark Bowen "disciplined" enacted individual abuse on a member of the church or on a sheep.  Mark Darling abused more than one sheep in a sexually related manner.  Mark Bowen knew he was doing so and did nothing.  I'm seriously just sick about this.

There’s no side here. Mark B’s decision to keep everyone in the dark about the two other women were a big deal. Without knowing about these other two, Egreen was satisfied that the SVD incident was isolated and a pattern of behavior was never established. Without that pattern being established, no one was looking for it going forward. Any objective observer can see that as a big problem.

Yes, PietWowo, everything has two sides.  The pastors at these churches already had the opportunity to share their side publicly.  They did it in each of these cases, presenting their "side" while the shunned families said very little in their own defense.  The problem is, they got to create all the definitions for their side, including the definition of "gossip/slander" and "spiritual abuse."  So...let me create my own definitions of these things, use the authority I have established by teaching that the bible has given me much authority, and then tell you what you've done wrong and what I haven't done wrong.

Even though this is one "side," I possess (or have access to) documents/letters as well as audio from more than one meeting regarding these matters.  Most of what the pastors wrote themselves would confirm what I wrote.  And Mark Bowen/Mark Darling participated in all of it.

Also, I don't pretend to believe that both "sides" are equally valid.  I think GCC is an abusive system and the WI/MN churches are particularly problematic.   When it comes to abuse of power, I'm not sure it is necessary to consider "sides."

I would look for definitions to those words in the Bible first of all. Then you can also do a study how these words were used within their culture. That's how you can come up with definitions. Not by thinking about it and coming up with your own definitions. Which by the way will be very tainted by being in totally different western culture and mindset. I assume that you are somewhere in a western culture, like the USA.

You know what? I'm tired of hearing that this board is one-sided. No one here is censoring anyone, and no one is issuing a gag order. Mark Bowen, Mark Darling, and anyone else associated with that hot mess have their own websites, their own pulpits, and their own access to the press if they care to issue a statement. They could even join here and post their version of events, just as Jeromy Darling and so many others did. They have chosen not to. Their choice, not ours. Furthermore, if you want their side, there's absolutely nothing preventing you from calling them up and asking.  I'm sure their phone numbers can't be that hard to find. It's not the job of anyone on this forum to speak for them. So stop saying we're one-sided, because it's not true.  Say instead that the leaders are secretive and deceitful, because that's the truth.

I would take the defense of a son which much more credibility, then someone, who doesn't know. I definitely wouldn't put more stock in a woman, who was at least a fornicator and then was permitting by her own words to commit close to adultery with a married man.

And there we have it. Text book victim blaming. This is astonishing.

That said, since you are attempting to discredit Suzanne by saying you wouldn't put much stock in her words because they were said by someone who committed "close to adultery with a married may" you are actually claiming that MD was inappropriate with her. Very interesting.

Also, are you aware that people sin? Some even commit sexual sins. Then, the Lord convicts them of their sin, they repent, and find forgiveness through Jesus Christ. A wise pastor will understand that people sometimes continue to have guilt over their sin, help them deal with the consequences of their sin, and will reassure them that they are forgiven. A bad "pastor" will ask them about the details of the sex act.

Also, when listening to testimony, a wise jury will take into account many things. Does the witness have something to lose if the case goes poorly? Does the witness have something to gain if the case goes poorly? Does the witness have someone to protect? It is natural for a son to want to protect his father. It is natural for a worship leader at a church to want to protect his job.

Linda, I'm saying that according to her own words (which I'm having a hard time believing) she was hugging a man, while there were sexual things involved. Why didn't she break loose? Why did she sleep with her boyfriend? A virgin wouldn't know what their favourite positions were or how they sounded to even be asked....  This all makes no sense.... Then I can't believe that Mark and Kathy would invite her to their home to listen to them having sex.... Then she had a meeting with all of the elders about that and somehow they thought it was fine.... Then she married a fellowelder of them later and had Mark Darling perform the wedding.... This all is crazy.... It makes no sense. Besides that, somehow the family of Mark Darling seems to be in total agreement with Mark, that it didn't happen. Children know their father and if something like that happened, there would be huge consequences in the family.  The only thing that I heard was that Mark Darling had been inappropriate with a woman.... That is extremely vague.... What does that even mean??? I think some of you are so quick to rush to judgement, because some of you have a personal problem with GCx... Just the post of a new church plant shows that. Before the church has hardly gotten around, someone here wanted to put a warning in the newspaper....

Then you want the strongest punishment on Mark Darling, and Brent Knox and all of the elders. Then on the next threat, you'll complain about people that have been put under church discipline. It all seems to me like some of you want to have that entire movement cease to exist and no matter what they do, you won't be happy until they all shut down every church.

That is why there is so much anger in some of you all. Instead learn to forgive and move on... And if you have something against someone else, deal with it with them....

My two cents: I think it’s time to ignore PietWowo. They are just stirring up nonsense. This makes it all cloudier.

Shame on you! Stop trolling you wicked insensitive boorish pathetic excuse for a human being. Your words on this forum represent the worst GCM has to offer. You are perfect as an example of why the church is abusive and allows pastor's sin to go unfettered. I am glad you have posted on this forum because your words will warn others away from the cult much more than anything those of us who have left the cult may say. What is sad is that you are so degenerate mentally that you don't see how sick your world view is. That is what happens when you are in a cult and they teach you lies in how to think. You need professional help. Lots of it.

A cult claims to have extra Biblical revelation. GCx doesn't have that. A cult does not work together with other churches. GCx does that. The doctrine of a cult is not any orthodox Christian belief.... GCx's doctrine is main stay Evangelical.

But they accused Paul of being in a cult too....

So Linda, Hulda, and others. Any good suggestions on where to go from here? How can pressure be used to bring Bowen and others to account?

These men knows the names and faces of these women. I keep thinking about how powerful it would be if these women gathered and sat in silent protest, front and center, during every Sunday service at each loacation until real apologies happen.

I obviously do NOT expect the women to do this. They’ve done more than enough in just telling their stories. I think it’s just profound to think about how that’s already theoretically happening, and these men continue to ignore it.

Interesting thought, Wrestling. Or, a protest where others came with a photo of the victims and sat there. Sort of an "I am Spartacus" moment.

That said, my thought is that the job of the members of the congregation is to hold their pastors to account. It can be done with words, dollars, or feet, however, the way GCC churches are set up the only voice members have that can assure action is dollars and/or feet.

My posting here is more about helping make sure the victims are fully heard. Brent was right, this has truly been unfair and unjust. To the victims.

I think of all those years where the talk was "character matters" when it comes to elders, what was really happening was some of the higher up elders, knew of the allegations, failed to follow through on the agreed upon correction, and never even told the BOT let alone the congregation.

Just after calling Pietwowo deranged, you all have a Spartacus moment just to show everyone you can one-up him on the unhinged scale. Go ahead show up with your pics. Love to see you there.
